REVIEW: Olivia Gaines’ MICAH, the fourth installment in the Delgado Files Series, brings readers back into the intricate world of the Delgado family, a dynasty defined by tradition, power, and a relentless pursuit of legacy. The storyline centers on Micah Delgado, the third-born son of Eduardo, known as the Czar of Columbia. Ms. Gaines crafts a coming-of-age take that seamlessly blends family expectations, personal growth, and a subtle exploration of neurodiversity.

Micah Delgado stands out not only as an heir to a powerful lineage but also as a young man navigating life with Asperger’s Syndrome. I love how Ms Gaines approaches Micah’s neurodiversity portraying it as both a challenge and a unique advantage. Micah’s ability to focus on details and his straightforward communication style become assets in his world, allowing him to excel where others might stumble. He is formidable. As he approaches his eighteenth birthday, fully inked with the The Bushmaster (you will get that when you read the story), ready to enroll in a university, and according to tradition, ready to find a wife, Micah finds that his journey into adulthood is a struggle to balance family expectations with his own desires.

One thing he desires is Alita Mendoza, his trained and deadly bodyguard whose role extends beyond physical protection by providing emotional support, a steady presence, and a trustworthy confidante. Her relationship with Micah lays the foundation for a relationship built on trust, mutual love, and respect. What is more, Alita is a multidimensional character whose own journey intertwines with Micah’s. Their romance unfolds slowly, allowing their connection to feel authentic. Their HEA is a promise of love, peace, and more ink.

The minor characters are supportive, and contentious. It is an eclectic group that helps to advance the plot and set the tone of a scene. I loved the marriage prospects that were paraded before Micah. Great scenes!

This is the first time that I have read Ms Gaines’ work. I must admit that I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Micah’s journey will appeal to readers who appreciate character-driven stories and thoughtful themes. Whether you are a longtime fan of the series or new to the Delgado family as I am,
MICAH is a rewarding read. I recommend it for your reading pleasure.
