WAKING UP MARRIED - Reece Ryan
REVIEWER: Brenda Larnell RATING: A
REVIEW: I am loving the Bourbon Brothers Series. Prolific author, Reese Ryan, has provided her readers with some creative and compelling stories. WAKING UP MARRIED is no exception. Taking front and center is Zora Abbott, the sales VP of the family-owned distillery, King’s Finest. Zora is an asset to the business, and richer than rich. However, she is facing a life crisis that continues to grow each time she attends a wedding, a baby shower, or receives news that the Abbott family has increased with the birth of another baby. Zora makes up her mind to resolve her problem, but first she must meet longtime best friend, Dallas Hamilton, in Las Vegas to help him celebrate an award he is being given for his outstanding innovation in designing furniture. The Las Vegas trip will serve a two-fold purpose because Dallas is planning an early birthday celebration for Zora while they are in Sin City.
I love how Ms Ryan presents a different look at the tried-and-true trope of friends-to-lovers in this story. There is some underlying sexual tension between Zora and Dallas that has lingered since they kissed a couple of years before at a Christmas charity affair. Blame it on the alcohol? Maybe, but it left them both with mixed feelings that are never really resolved. The story line flows smoothly as Dallas and Zora navigate through the celebration, the confession, and the ceremony…. Wait. “What ceremony”, you may ask? What a great scene after our couple wakes up one morning and discovers that they are actually a couple with papers and have all the assorted accessories to prove it. If that’s not enough, Dallas and Zora make a deal to stay married for one year. No spoilers, my friends. You must read the provocative details for yourself.
There is a lot of story left to pursue as Zora and Dallas have to face the real world after their escapade in Vegas. Zora’s family, as well as Dallas’, is supportive considering there are still a couple of important details that are left unsaid. It’s complicated and messy, but you will enjoy their love journey that takes them all the way to Iceland. I’ll just leave that right there. Their HEA is everything!
WAKING UP MARRIED is an entertaining and captivating story. I recommend it for your reading pleasure. It also offers you an opportunity to revisit the wonderful Abbotts, one of my favorite book families. If you haven’t met them yet, allow me to recommend this series that includes SAVANNAH’S SECRETS, THE BILLIONAIRE’S LEGACY, ENGAGING THE ENEMY, and A REUNION OF RIVALS. You can thank me later!
