REVIEW: After her sister passed away, Eve Martin came to Royal, Texas, to find her nephew’s father. But unfortunately, Eve has had a rough time lately. Not only did her sister pass away, but she is still recovering from an illness herself. Nevertheless, her determination to get well for her nephew keeps her going. Then, Eve meets Rafael Wentworth at the ‘Texas Cattleman’s Club, and the attraction is instant. The two of them begin a personal relationship expecting nothing to come of it. Both were honest with each other from the start. Eve has no plans to stay in Royal, and Rafe has no plans to get married or have kids. Of course, neither one expected to fall in love. Things have a way of changing when love is involved.
Rafe is a hotelier and take-charge kind of guy. When he sees a problem, he goes into fix-it mode. Although Rafe is a part of the wealthy Wentworth family, he moved away and became a self-made millionaire. He came home to mend the strained relationship with his family. Eve is a sensitive yet strong young woman. And she takes her responsibilities seriously. After being cleared of a crime she didn’t commit, she plans to devote her life to raising her young nephew.
THE REBEL’S RETURN is a fast-paced emotional read. This story is wonderfully written with likable characters. The two main characters are complex and strong-willed, but they complement each other well. Rafe is not family-oriented because he didn’t have an easy time growing up. Eve, on the other hand, is just the opposite. Yet the two of them can’t seem to stay away from each other. Add baby Micah, and you have a family. Whether Rafe likes it or not, Eve refuses to abandon her nephew to be with him. Of course, they butt heads, but Eve stands her ground. Rafe doesn’t bow to pressure, but he had to bend a little in this instant. I love Eve’s character. She proves that she is nobody’s pushover.
THE REBEL’S RETURN is the fifth installment in the (Texas Cattleman's Club: Fathers and Sons Series). I recommend this book and the entire series to anyone who enjoys drama and intrigue built into a romance with attention-getting characters who make great connections.
