Heart Stealer - Delaney Diamond
Garden Avenue Press
REVIEWER: Brenda Larnell | RATING: A
REVIEW: She stole his heart and walked away. Meet Katherine Stallworth, a scientist in the field of microbiology and Raheem Miller, the Vice President of Technology for the Cordoba Agency. Katherine and Raheem were involved in a hot and steamy love affair while Katherine was still married to a prominent Biotechnologist. The affair ended when Katherine called it off to “save” her marriage. Raheem was crushed. When the story opens, Katherine is in need of protection because her husband has been murdered, and her life is in danger. From this point in the story, Chapter 2, fasten your seatbelt and get ready for a page-turner that delivers on the “threat of danger as well as the promise of romance”.
There are so many layers to this story. I was introduced to it when the Ms Diamond teased her readers with the first nine chapters before the publication date. It was great reading, but little did I know what the next twenty-three chapters would bring. I was totally captivated! First, the romantic aspect pulls you in with the older woman- younger man trope, and the fact that the heroine was cheating on her husband with the hero. Second, because of the dangerous circumstances, and Raheem’s resolve to keep it strictly business, it takes a while for Raheem and Katherine to acknowledge and rekindle their feelings for each other, but it is so worth the wait. They are a hot couple! Third, the danger surrounding them is fueled by those in the higher echelons of government who are driven by the thirst for power. The author meticulously lays out a tension-filled story that will keep you glued to the book.
The agents of the Córdoba Agency play a major role in assisting Raheem in keeping Katherine safe. They are a high-tech, super skilled bunch who leave no stone unturned. I love the action, the love narrative, the ruthless bad players, and the inclusion of biotechnology and biological weapons that ultimately form a smooth flowing well-written story.
The minor characters, who support the hero and heroine and add to the intrigue of story are mainly from the Cordoba Agency. Cruz Cordoba (UNTIL NOW, Book 1) and the crew play a key role. The bad players are bad-to-the-bone. The characterization in this story is on-point. The HFN offers a wonderful respite from all the drama.
I enjoyed HEART STEALER and I recommend it for your reading pleasure. It is an entertaining and engaging story written by a master storyteller. HEART STEALER is Book #3 of the Cordoba Agency Series, but it can be read as a stand-alone. It’s a good series, but HEART STEALER is my favorite. Check it out and let me know what you think.
