· Favorite TV Show: Living Single – it remains funny and unproblematic all these years later
· Favorite Author: Octavia Butler
· Favorite Song: It Never Entered My Mind by Miles Davis
· Favorite Book: This changes all the time, but right now my favorite book is Dawn of the North by Demi Winters. It’s also the book I’ve read most recently.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
· Describe a typical day for K.D.
Well, I’m an early riser so I’m usually up by 6ish and at my desk by 7am. I check email and social media and plan the day and then I dive in. If I’m drafting, as opposed to editing, I do that in the morning. I think I write better in the morning when I’m most rested. I usually work until 11am or so and then stop to eat and go to the gym. I’m back around 1 or 2PM and I’ll check email again and do business stuff. I usually have to break for kid stuff at 4PM but if I can I squeeze in a bit more work before bed or if I’m wiped out (or just not up for working anymore) I’ll read before bed.
· What do you enjoy most about being a writer?
You know, I dreamed of being a writer when I was a kid so I’m living my dream. I love just making up stories. The first draft is both the best and one of the worst parts of the process. I love when it’s coming together, and the words are rolling out of me. But the flip side is when I hit writer’s block.
· What, to you, is the most difficult part of the writing process?
Editing. Not really editing as much as revision. Having to cut a scene that I absolutely love but knowing the book would be better off without it, is tough.
· You have found your niche with Romantic Suspense. What do you like about that genre?
So, I have a short attention span so romantic suspense mixing romance and thriller/mystery works well for me. When my mind starts to wander away from one part of the part, it’s usually time to ramp up on the other part of the story.
· What do you enjoy doing when you are not writing?
I’ve got two sons who are both every athletic, so when I’m not working I’m usually at some sports event cheering them on. I love watching WNBA and college basketball too.
· What is the best book you read in 2025?
I hate this question because there are so many great books out, it’s hard to choose just one. I really enjoyed SON OF THE MORNING by Akwaeke Emezi.
ALL ABOUT THE BOOKS
· Tell us a bit about your Guardians of Justice Series and its latest instalment, COLD CASE COVERUP.
COLD CASE COVER-UP is the third book in the Guardians of Justice Series and it features journalist Landon Elkins, who made appearances in the first two books, and librarian Nichol Bunin. They have to work together to solve the murder of a local girl that just might also answer the question of who killed Landon’s father twenty years earlier.
· If you had to recommend a book that best embodies you as the author, which of your books would it be?
My debut, PURSUIT OF THE TRUTH, will always hold a special place in my heart. I also really loved writing CATCHING THE CARLING LAKE KILLER which was a lot of fun despite the serial killer plot.
· What qualities or characteristics do you believe make your special?
Most of my books focus on family, either the family we are born into or the family that we make, and I think that sets them apart. My main characters often rely on their family to help them achieve their goals and solve crime.
· What is next for K.D? Any interesting projects?
There are several more books in the Guardians of Justice Series coming up and I’m excited about them. And I have a couple of other interesting projects that I hope will come to fruition soon so stay tuned!
ABOUT THE READERS
· If there was one thing you could tell your readers about K.D., what would it be?
Oh, gosh, maybe something that only people close to me know. How about that I’m very clutzy.
· What advice would you give to an aspiring author?
Write a lot but also read a lot and in a variety of genres. You never know where inspiration is going to come from.
