REVIEW: This is the second book that I’ve read by Ms. Martin-Arnold, but Book #1 in her Chocolate Romance Series, and I must say that she weaves a delightful tale. Professor Olivia Anderson and student, Andre Flaven, are featured in this story. They are an unlikely couple, at first, but as the story progresses, it becomes evident that they are meant for each other. I will allow you to discover how they first met, but I will say that the setting and circumstances are quite unusual.

Olivia is an accomplished author and on the fast-track to becoming tenured. She has a lot going for herself, yet she is seeing a therapist because she is terribly uptight.  I love the opening scene with her mother who leaves with a semblance of hope for her daughter because Olivia reassures her that she is not “practicing an alternative lifestyle”. Clearly, there is something troubling Olivia that she is struggling with because her writing has come to a halt. In this cleverly written story, Olivia’s metamorphosis begins on Chocolate Friday, after Andre literally dances into her life. You’ll get that when you read the story. Andre “Flava” Flaven, a bit of a renaissance man, who helps Olivia become her best self by embracing her true self.  The author creates a poignant moment when Olivia finally reveals to Andre the two devastating, life-changing events that sent her in a tail-spin. On the other hand, that revelation marks the beginning of a wonderful love journey that smoothly unfolds at each turn of the page. Andre and Olivia’s relationship goes from 0 to 70 as Olivia discovers her “sexy lady” with Andre’s help.

The supporting cast of characters help to contribute to the protagonists’ development and the intrigue of the story. Olivia’s best friend, Cass, is a hoot! However, there is one character, who shall remain nameless, who slips in and out the story and has a big impact on both Olivia and Andre. No spoilers, but her presence leads to a climactic scene that gives the story quite a punch that will have you clutching your pearls. The HEA is everything!

CHOCOLATE FRIDAY is an entertaining and captivating story. I recommend it for your reading pleasure.
