REVIEW: Author Reese Ryan does an excellent job in penning her contribution to Harlequin Desire’s Texas Cattleman’s Club Series. HIS UNTIL MIDNIGHT features Ryan Bateman and Tessa Noble. As you read the story, you will become aware of several familiar tropes: Friends-to Lovers, Bachelor Auction, and Childhood Crush. Although they are familiar, Reese Ryan presents a fresh look at some tried and true themes of Romancelandia.

Tessa and Ryan are the best of friends. In Royal, Texas, their hometown, everyone who knows them understands that they share a bond that goes back to when they were mere toddlers. Yet, their relationship remains platonic until their lives are forever changed by the outcome of a charity auction sponsored by the Texas Cattleman’s Club. This is where the storyline takes a creative twist, and Tessa finds herself a participant in the auction, instead of an observer. No spoilers, but I love how the author presented a different look to a familiar theme. Not only is it a game-changer for Ryan and Tessa’s relationship, but it also changes the story from sweet to sexy. You might want to have your fan handy for some of the scenes.

I will be remiss if I did not mention the promising subplot that is brewing that includes a quartet of side characters. Rose Clayton and Gus Slade are caught up in a web of deceit that involves their respective grandchildren, Daniel and Alexis. I’m just going to leave that right there for you to discover how this throw-back to the Hatfield-McCoy family feud is connected to the story. Speaking of side characters, Ryan’s ex-fiancé, Sabrina, shows up to reclaim Ryan, but it appears that ship has sailed.

I enjoyed HIS UNTIL MIDNIGHT. It is an entertaining and enjoyable read, and I recommend it for your reading pleasure.
