REVIEW: Author Sheryl Lister pens an entertaining story that incorporates a familiar trope, reunited high school sweethearts. Millionaire real estate developer Derek Moore and super model Alexis Armstrong meet after ten years. Former high school sweethearts, they find themselves at a rent-a-bachelor fundraiser in Los Angeles. It’s a very apropos setting for the featured millionaire mogul who is portrayed in the story.

After ten years, Derek and Alexis find themselves still attracted to each other. The chemistry is still there and noticeable. While life has afforded them success in their respective fields, it has also dealt some weighty blows that they carry with them. Derek is deeply affected by past family issues which makes him wary of any kind of close relationships.  As a matter of fact, throughout the story, he is trying to resolve his issues with his brothers and father. I’m not going to spill the tea here, but I will say that those issues create enough conflict to influence Derek’s lifestyle and how he deals with his family.

Alexis is good for Derek because she provides a much-needed listening ear, and good loving which allows Derek to be more open and accepting. On the other hand, Derek is also there for Alexis when she finds herself in a déjà vu situation that had a devastating outcome the first time. I like this couple especially when they finally come to the realization that they are meant to be together. The storyline is straightforward and easy to follow.

The side characters who contribute to the storyline comprise Derek’s brothers, Trey and Max, and their father, Reginald. Alexis’ best friend, Charlene, provides advice and acts as a sounding board. While the HEA is satisfying, you will discover that there are a few loose ends that are not addressed. No worries. There is a connection that you might want to delve into if you are not familiar with the
Millionaire Moguls Series. Right now, it’s an eight-book series that features various authors. I have to admit that I am not familiar with all the books of this series. I read HIS LOS ANGELES SURPRISE as a stand-alone with no problem. Kudos to the author for supplying adequate background information to help the reader understand the behavior of the hero. However, Trey, one of Derek’s brothers, is the featured hero in A LOS ANGELES PASSION by author, Sherelle Green whom Sheryl Lister notes that she collaborated with along with author, Pamela Yaye. So, I am sure that the next offering (Yaye’s book) will continue the story of the Moore men, and tie up the loose ends.

In the meantime, I recommend
HIS LOS ANGELES SURPRISE for your reading pleasure.
