REVIEW:  Joy Avery has penned another entertaining and compelling story. As part of The Cardinal House Series, the protagonists grew up in the foster care system, and later became successful adults. Lauder Tolson and Willow Dawson have history, and when the story begins, they are reuniting after almost twenty years.

Lauder is on the fast track to becoming a member of North Carolina’s State Congress by running for a senate seat. He’s young, fresh, charismatic, and giving his incumbent opponent a run for his money. However, there is something missing that his campaign manager and longtime friend, Chuck Carlisle, believes will seal the deal. Lauder needs a woman by his side to present the perception of a stable, responsible young man as opposed to a carefree, love ‘em and leave ‘em bachelor.  In steps Willow who has mixed feelings about reuniting with Lauder again after their not-so-lovable parting. Successful in her own right, Willow owns her company that specializes in forensic facial reconstruction. She decides that hooking up again with Lauder just might help her achieve a personal dream. It doesn’t take long, however, for them to reconnect and reestablish the chemistry that they experienced back in the day.

Talk about chemistry! Lauder and Willow are quite the hot couple. Unfortunately, both Lauder’s and Willow’s plans are short-circuited when a hacker exposes a close-guarded secret that involves their past. One of the strong features of this story is discovering Lauder and Willow’s intriguing history that reveals how they became entrenched in the foster care system. The second strongest feature is how they are able to navigate those misfortunate issues that caused their break up.

The side characters have important roles as they support and offer advice to the protagonists. Chuck, Lauder’s friend, and Hannah, Willow’s bestie serve these roles well. On the other hand, Reggie, Willow’s ex-bed partner, and Jeff Edmondson, Lauder’s opponent are not as admirable in their roles. Nevertheless, they all contribute to moving the storyline along.

I loved the HEA! For all the romantics out there, the Epilogue is sure to leave you with a smile on your face.
CAMPAIGN FOR HIS HEART is an enjoyable read, and I recommend it for your reading pleasure.
