REVIEW: Holland Davenport always wanted to go beyond her small town existence. A cancer scare helps to make up her mind to see what else is out there in this big world. She doesn’t want to leave her family and friends, but she wants more out of life than she has experienced. Before she can leave, she receives a priority letter from an attorney in New York stating that she has inherited a brownstone from an aunt she never knew. Holland was adopted so she wants to learn more about her birth family, so she goes to New York. She meets her next-door neighbor, Noble Washington, and although there is a world of difference between them, there’s an attraction that won’t be denied. Later on Noble and Holland spend one incredible night together. When Holland starts her new job, she finds that Noble is on the board, and they have an anti-fraternizing policy in place.
Holland is on a journey of self-discovery when she learns that she owns property in New York. Her emotions are all over the place learning about a family she never knew. But it gives her a sense of who she is. Noble is at a crisis point in his life after being ousted as CEO of a company he spent ten years building. He feels a sense of betrayal. What is he to do with himself after years of putting the hard work into Push Beverages? A question only Noble can answer.
UNLIKELY NEIGHBORS is about two people who reach a fork in the road of their lives. They have to reinvent themselves and decide where to go from here. Life throws us some twists and turns as does this story. Holland and Noble are the two main characters who have been thrown major loops. Ms. Flagler did a good job with the plot and the characterization is strong and believable. Of course, their interactions are realistic. There are a lot of things taking place between the pages of this book. Emotional upheaval, grief, and deceit, to name a few. Holland and Noble have a lot to work through. But you will have to read the story to discover what makes this such a good read.
UNLIKELY NEIGHBORS is an opposites attract contemporary romance. An enjoyable, moving story with an engaging storyline. I truly enjoyed reading this book and you will too.
