REVIEW: We are back in Bronco, Montana, and the featured Montana Maverick is Caleb Strom. Caleb is not from Bronco, but Tenacity, Montana. I point that out because this book is the third book of six in the Montana Mavericks Series, The Trail to Tenacity. Prolific author, Kathy Douglass, in her contribution to this series, does an excellent job of connecting these two towns with a great cast of familiar characters. Bronco is the home of the famous Hawkins sisters, the African American rodeo stars featured in STARTING OVER WITH THE MAVERICK, IN THE RING WITH THE MAVERICK, AND FALLING FOR DR. MAVERICK. Faith Hawkins is the featured heroine in this story, and it’s her turn to find love.
Caleb has a personal reason to travel to Bronco from his hometown of Tenacity. He is on a mission to find his birth father. Adopted at an early age by a wonderful couple who gave him a good life, Caleb feels it is time to finally have a serious conversation with the man he believes is his father. I am not going to divulge how Caleb discovered the information about his birth father, or how it led him to Bronco. I will allow you to discover that when you read the story. However, I will say that while Caleb is in Bronco, he encounters Faith Hawkins, an accomplished rodeo star who happens to be celebrating her birthday on the day they meet. From their first meeting, a friendship forms, and they develop a relationship with Faith agreeing to help Caleb in his search for his birth father.
Caleb and Faith’s friendship is the basis of a great friends-to-lovers story. I loved how their relationship developed.
Faith and Caleb have a lot in common, although Caleb knows little about that rodeo life. As you read the story, you will learn about that commonality. Family and friends play important side character roles in our lead characters’ lives. Grandma Hattie, the Hawkins’ Matriarch, stands out as she plays a key role in helping Caleb meet his birth father. What a great scene! The HFN for Caleb and Faith promises a bright future.
THAT MAVERICK OF MINE is an enjoyable and engaging read. I recommend it for your reading pleasure, along with the other Montana Mavericks books that feature the diverse Hawkins’ family sisters.
