REVIEW:  Welcome back to the U.N. Universe and specifically one of my favorite fictional towns, Luxe Noir, South Carolina. Luxe Noir is an affluent predominantly Black American town, and the home of the uber rich Westbrook family. Speaking of the Westbrooks, Elijah Westbrook, one of seven siblings, is the leading man in TANGLED IN CHRISTMAS. He owns an investment firm that is based out of Jamaica, his mother’s home country. His female counterpart is Nengi Touré, the accomplished Mayor of Luxe Noir, whose parents have roots in Mali and Nigeria. Nengi and Elijah are a wonderful couple who compliment each other in a number of ways as you will discover when you read the story.

First, I want to thank the talented Ms Nwankwor for the pictures that she inserted in the story. I absolutely love that little lagniappe, which is a great touch for a visual reader like me. Secondly, I loved how the author utilized the fake relationship trope to drive the storyline. Elijah and Nengi’s romance blossoms from that trope as they decide to control their own narrative. Third, Luxe Noir’s Christmas festivities is the perfect backdrop for this delightful story. We learn a lot about Nengi’s as a person and all her idiosyncrasies. Likewise, Elijah’s seven-year absence from Luxe Noir, and his “protective” nature is revealed as their story unfolds in this special holiday season.

The minor characters, Elijah and Nengi’s family and friends, support our couple and are always present to give advice, sometimes unwanted. There is also an air of tension caused by an election run-off between Nengi and her rival and ex-fiancée, Robert Burris. You are going to love the HFN that is a wonderful respite from the holiday festivities.

TANGLED IN CHRISTMAS: A Luxe Noir Christmas is an entertaining and engrossing story that will enhance your holiday reading by delivering “Black love and sprinkles of African spice.” I recommend it for your reading pleasure.
