REVIEW: SOUL LOVE presents the story of Zoe, the third generation of strong, beautiful Black women headed by matriarch, Zora, her aunt Zola and her mother, Zena who are all empowered with a distinct gift. The first book of the series, SHE’S GOT SOUL, features Zola, and the second book, DEEP IN MY SOUL features Zena. When we first me Zoe in Book #1, she is a precocious young girl. In Book #2, Zoe is an outspoken teenager who is aware of her special gift. In SOUL LOVE, Zoe is a young woman on the verge of graduating from culinary school, and on the verge of discovering her soul mate. Enter Rashaad, a gifted musician, who is making a name for himself in the entertainment world. Rashaad rents an apartment in the same building as Zoe. He is playing a gig at a local spot where Zoe is employed as an apprentice cook, and of course, “the rest is history”.
Aja does a masterful job in writing Zoe’s story. I love how she has allowed her readers to follow the development of this character from book to book. As a result, Zoe’s story flows flawlessly from start to finish. Zoe knows that Rashaad is “the one” before she even meets him. You’ll get that when you read the story. Ironically, Rashaad understands that Zoe is so much more than just another female associated with another gig in another city. Zoe and Rashaad’s love journey is special, especially when you consider that Rashaad has only cared about his music and his baby, his guitar. Speaking of music, the playlist for the story is outstanding! Zoe and Rashaad’s backstories play important roles in their promising futures. The meeting between Zoe, her half- sister, and Rashaad is quite an unforgettable scene. That last chapter, The Stars, OMG! I can’t begin to tell you how significant it is to the story, and the next one. You just have to read it for yourself.
All the minor characters contribute to the intrigue of the story and the development of the main characters. From Zoe’s village to Rashaad’s, they help to pull the story together. We catch up with Zola and Khalil (SHE’S GOT SOUL) and Zena and Rafael (DEEP IN MY SOUL). I am so looking forward to Zora’s story to complete The Soulmates Series. Zoe and Rashaad’s HEA is beautiful.
I love this captivating story and this series. I recommend SOUL LOVE for your reading pleasure. You can read it as a stand-alone but do yourself a favor and read SHE’S GOT SOUL and DEEP IN MY SOUL. You can thank me later.
