REVIEW: Chloe Grant is happy with her job as a Chicago police detective until a bust goes wrong. Her fellow officers place the blame at her feet for the failure. With the whispers and glaring looks from coworkers, Chloe doesn’t trust them to have her back anymore. As a result, she is forced to retire. Hence her return to her hometown in Maxwell, Arizona, to start over. She begins a podcast centered around true crimes, and bodies begin to turn up, mimicking the crimes she highlights on her podcast. Thinking her troubles from Chicago have followed her to Arizona, Chloe seeks help. At first the only person she can count on to have her back is her childhood friend, Troy Miller. They work together to find out who is committing these crimes and why the killer is tormenting her along the way. In the midst of her troubles, Chloe and Troy grow closer and their friendship quickly turns to love.
Chloe is a formal Chicago police detective. When things go wrong she returns to her hometown of Maxwell, Arizona and starts a true crime podcast. Troy is a childhood friend of Chloe who has always had a crush on her. He leaves Maxwell to work in California for a while and returns home to work for his sister when she becomes chief of police.
PREYED UPON is a story centered around Chloe Grant, a formal Chicago police detective who flees when the pressure of dealing with deceitful cops in the department becomes too much but, more importantly, she has a concern for her safety. She returns to her hometown and reconnects with a childhood friend, Troy Miller, who vows to protect her from the killer tormenting her. As usual Ms. Wheatley does an awesome job with the plot. Each scene draws you deeper into the story. It gets more interesting and engaging. Looking for clues to the identity of the killer will keep readers guessing until the end. And then they will be surprised when it turns out to be someone they least expect. That’s good writing. PREYED UPON is another winner for Ms. Wheatley.
PREYED UPON is a fast-paced whodunit and attention getter that will give readers hours of pleasure. If you have a curiosity for mystery and suspense you will enjoy reading this book.
