REVIEW: MISSING AT CHRISTMAS by K.D. Richards is Book #2 in the West Investigations Series which began with PURSUIT OF THE TRUTH. When Shawn West sees a young woman being attacked, he rescues her, only to discover that the woman is Addy Williams, with whom he had a brief dalliance and one he has never forgotten. At the time, he had been seriously attracted to her and had hoped for more. Addy, it seems, is searching for her sister who has disappeared and when Shawn offers his help, she agrees. Little does she know that the case Shawn is investigating is somehow connected to Cassie’s disappearance.

Both Addy and Shawn are interesting and likable characters, but they seem totally opposite in personality. Addy’s determination to find her sister never falters. At times, she allows emotion, not reason to guide her decisions, and does make a few rash decisions which put her in harm’s way. However, on occasions, her quick thinking gets them out of serious predicaments. Addy is not afraid to carry a gun and proves that she knows how to use it. Her refusal to toe the line is admirable. Shawn, on the other hand, is ruled more by logic and is cautious every step of the investigation. Of course, he and Addy clash at times, but his caution is rooted in his desire to keep Addy safe. At times too, he is at odds with his brother, Ryan (hero of
PURSUIT OF THE TRUTH), but as readers, we are confident that he is making the right decisions. Despite the circumstances of their meeting, the chemistry between the two is palpable and, as readers, we enjoy watching the slow burn to intimacy.

The vivid setting, a quiet upstate New York town, and secondary characters make this entry in the series a worthy follow up to
PURSUIT OF THE TRUTH. I loved the family dynamic and seeing more of the sibling rivalry. Sheriff Donovan is a serious piece of work! Addy had all right to be frustrated with his indifference. Along with these elements, Ms. Richards provides plenty of action and tense moments; things I look for in romantic suspense. Like with most Intrigues, I wish there was a bit more ‘heat’, but this did not stop me from enjoying this excellent entry in the series. I can’t wait to read, CHRISTMAS DATA BREACH, the next book in the series. Fortunately, I don’t have long to wait as it goes on sale next month.
