REVIEW: Dr. Maxwell Santana is the baby of the Santana-Connor family. He’s starting his career at a small family-owned pediatrician office. During a night out with his friends, he meets Jasmine Roberson. They click, however, neither of them wants anything past one night. They would enjoy the night and never see each other again, right? Wrong! Maxwell is shocked to discover that Jasmine is the office manager of her father’s pediatrics practice.
Ms. Diamond describes Maxwell as “devastatingly handsome” with “dark, heavy-lidded eyes…that made eye contact feel deliberate and intimate”. After the night Jasmine and Maxwell shared, she has to concentrate on being indifferent when they formally meet, which catches Maxwell off guard and offends him.
Maxwell and Jasmine work very well together and try to move past that night, even though their chemistry was explosive and it is hard to forget. The more they get to know each other, the closer they get. Maxwell is confident and doesn’t take no for an answer when he senses that Jasmine’s feelings are changing. They end up spending time together platonically and the story goes from there.
Jasmine is scarred by the impacts of a bad break up. Maxwell has lived, well, as a single attractive man who is not interested in a commitment. It is interesting how Ms. Diamond makes Maxwell prove his worthiness to Jasmine. He has an interesting personality and some unique interests that help make him more than just the handsome, confident hero.
I continue to enjoy the side plot with Maxwell’s parents Rose and Benicio and of course getting updates on the rest of the family. I thought the way Jasmine handled the conflict was a bit unfair to Maxwell as he was lumped in with men that hurt her. At the same time, Maxwell didn’t have the best relationship track record.
Overall, MAXWELL was an enjoyable read. I’m a little sad to see the series end. It would be great if we get to hear more from this family.
