REVIEW: LOVE OVERDOSE: St. Louis is a warm, emotionally inviting contemporary romance that blends instant attraction with the deeper question of whether two busy, guarded people can make room for lasting love. The novel centers on Elijah Valentine, a dedicated neurosurgeon whose demanding career has left little space for connection, and Frankie Mellows, an award-winning Zumba instructor and a single mother whose life is full of responsibility caring for her disabled, special needs son.
This story has an appealing spark from the beginning. Frankie’s attraction to Elijah starts with curiosity and chemistry, but the story gains strength when that attraction becomes something more thoughtful. Frankie is not written as someone simply waiting to be swept away; she has real obligations, limited time, and a protective sense of what she can afford emotionally. That makes her hesitation believable, especially when Elijah asks her to imagine a future she may not have planned for herself. Elijah is equally compelling as a hero because his polish and professional success are balanced by loneliness and exhaustion. His life revolves around saving others, yet he may also need to be saved from the isolation created by ambition, duty, and routine.
One of the book’s strengths is its focus on mature desire. The romance is passionate, but it is also grounded in everyday realities: parenting, work, fatigue, trust, and the courage it takes to let someone new step into an already complicated life. I enjoyed LOVE OVERDOSE because of the strong chemistry between the lead characters and the family-centered theme incorporated in the story. The St. Louis setting also gives the book a fresh sense of place within the larger Valentine world. Living in the St Louis Metropolitan area, I recognized all the places that Ms. Norris mentioned in the story which lent a lot of authenticity to the narrative. I am loving this St. Louis series!

If you are not familiar with the In the Heart of a Valentine Series, Chicago and St. Louis, I highly recommend the series. LOVE OVERDOSE is a contemporary Black romance with emotional tenderness, sensual tension, and a hopeful happily-ever-after.
