REVIEW: Twenty years ago, Karine Elois’s mother was murdered, and the killer was never found. Karine returns to her hometown determined to find out what happened to her mother. She teams up with her childhood friend, Omar Monroe, to bring the killer to justice. Someone doesn’t want Carling Lake secrets to come out and is willing to do whatever it takes to keep them hidden. The more questions Karine asks, the more she puts her life in danger. Several attempts are made on her life. But instead of frightening her away, it only makes her more determined. In the meantime, Karine and Omar realize their feelings for each have passed the friendship stage that they have maintained all these years. Both are hesitant to make that leap from friends to lovers. In the meantime, the killer makes one last desperate attempt to kill Karine.
Karine’s visit to Carling Lake is twofold. She plans to sell her family home, but she is also on a mission to find her mother’s killer. She has no plans to leave until that mystery is solved. Omar is a forest ranger on a mission of his own. There is illegal dumping going on in the lake and it’s poisoning the water and killing small animals in the forest. He intends to find that person and put a stop to it.
LAKESIDE SECRETS is an intense story whose secrets dates back twenty years ago. This author has written some wonderful suspense novels, and this one doesn’t disappoint. The pacing is good and with so much constant action there is no time for any slowdown. The characters interaction is good, especially the two main characters. Karine and Omar have been friends for most of their lives. It makes sense that Omar will help Karine in her search for her mother’s killer. The author skillful writing keeps the killer well hidden until the very end. Like me, you might be surprised when his identity is revealed. I had my mind set on another character. But sometimes the answer is staring you right in the face.
I would recommend LAKESIDE SECRETS simply because it’s just good reading. This author knows her stuff. I am looking forward to reading her next novel. It’s sure to be fantastic.
