REVIEW: Asa Young is the youngest of the Young crew, but at 34, he is undeniably grown. He lives by his own rules; even donating sperm once to get out of a financial bind. After owning a gym for a while, he now works as a personal trainer and has several celebrity clients that keep him traveling between Michigan and California.
In true Young family tradition, IT’S NOT THE BABY IT’S HIS DADDY opens with a spirited family conversation the weekend of Asa’s older brother Duke and Demi’s wedding. Charlye sees a kid that looks like her husband Dex (Asa’s brother) while they were out, and the conversation eventually leads to Asa telling his family that he donated his sperm before. I enjoyed how Ms. Wright reminds us of each family member’s personality. Between this discussion and the family chat, it’s fun to see each person act exactly how I expect them to.
Fans of Ms. Wright’s work may remember Paityn Young from “HER LITTLE SECRET (Young in Love Book #). Her best friend, Rissa, thought she had married her one true love, but now, the successful HR executive finds herself single in her early forties. Asa has been infatuated with Rissa since he was five, and the author’s description of his reaction to her all those years ago is hilarious. As I said, Asa is all grown up. Once he learns Rissa is single, all bets are off. He makes his intentions clear and offers her a night, or a week, that she will not forget. Their chemistry is explosive, and Rissa decides to keep him “for a little bit.”
Fast forward a couple of years, and they have discreetly connected and though casual, have grown closer. Unfortunately, Asa (and the whole extended family) loses someone that is very close to them. Asa becomes a single dad overnight. You must read the book to see how all of that happened.
I really admired how Asa works through this life transition and grew into his new role. Rissa is experiencing her own transition. They both realize what has been in front of them all along. True to their personalities and character, each family member supports Asa in their own unique, special way.
IT’S NOT THE BABY, IT’S HIS DADDY has all the elements I expect from the Young in Love Series; A sexy couple navigating life, fun and hilarious family interactions and heartwarming discussions with the family matriarch and patriarch. Their last name is perfect because they genuinely love and support each other. I enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
