REVIEW: This is my first time reading a story by Ms Ferrell, and I liked it. HER FOREVER FLING is a sweet romance that has a sensual edge. The storyline is all about the “Slow Burn” trope, so we are witnesses to the progress and transformation of a couple’s relationship. The couple who takes center stage is Dr. Elijah Grayson and Melissa Gaines, and both of them are members of the medical profession. Elijah is a Cardiothoracic Surgeon, and Melissa is a Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Nurse. They meet at a medical conference being held on a beautiful French Caribbean Island.
The meeting, the island, the conference all set the stage for an experience that will change Elijah and Melissa’s lives forever. Get ready to invest your time in a couple who gradually engage in a romantic/sexual relationship and who gradually fall in love. However, the sexual tension is immediate. Melissa knows of the world-renown young doctor before she literally runs into him at the conference. He is a rock-star surgeon. So, what is the main factor holding Melissa and Elijah’s relationship hostage? No spoilers, but I will say that the ball is in Melissa’s court. She carries a lot of baggage from a previous caustic relationship. I’ll allow you to discover the details of Melissa’s backstory when you read the story. The storyline gets a little bogged down with “should I “ or the “what if it happens again” hesitancy of the heroine. Even after Melissa and Elijah engage in a very steamy and sensually well-written love scene, Melissa still cannot fully engage in a “fling” with Elijah because it is, for Melissa, too much of a risk. For me, there are just too many hooded eyes, lingering gazes, enticing scents, and intensive moments that occur between our couple. Even after they find themselves working in the same city, in the same hospital, Melissa is still troubled because of “what people will think”. Really? Thank goodness, Elijah is in it to win it!
The side characters are memorable and they add to the intrigue of the story and the development of the major characters. Jayla, Melissa’s childhood friend, is the perfect yin to Melissa’s yang. I also like Elijah’s doctor friends, AJ and Patrick, who never fail to keep it real. The long time coming HFN is a wonderful relief, and I’ll take it!
I enjoyed HER FOREVER FLING although it did seem like forever for the couple to seal the deal. I recommend it for your reading pleasure.
