REVIEW: There is nothing plain about “plain ole” Maverick Prescott. Besides being a member of the prestigious Prescott family, Maverick is his own man. Labeled a “do-no-wrong goody two shoes”, he has always been underestimated by friends and family members. Speaking of family, Maverick is the fourth son of five siblings, with his sister, Ava, being the youngest and only girl. Although Maverick serves on the board of his family’s business, Prescott Holdings, he is the owner of a popular nightclub, The Lux.
After the reader is introduced to Maverick, via a slight confrontation during guy’s night at his buddy’s place, and another confrontation with a woman who refuses to believe that they are not a couple, the storyline takes on a somber note when Maverick learns his grandfather, Abraham Prescott, has died. At the funeral, Maverick comes face-to-face with the woman who had “ruined him for any other woman”, the story’s heroine, Simone Williams. It is at this point in the story that we realize that Maverick and Simone’s story is centered around the tried-and-true trope of ‘Second Chance Love’. They have known each other since they were children, and their relationship is one of missed opportunities and mixed messages. I love the scene at the reading of the grandfather’s will. It speaks volumes of the deceased Patriarch’s wisdom and his love of family. It also sets Maverick on a love journey in pursuit of the lovely Simone. No spoilers. I’ll allow you to discover how the star-crossed lovers, Maverick and Simone, work things out.
The side characters play major roles in supporting the hero and heroine. The prestigious Prescott family is all in, along with family and friends of Simone. You will discover that Simone’s grandfather is just as savvy as Maverick’s grandfather when it comes to matters of the heart. You’ll get that when you read the story. Maverick and Simone’s HEA is everything!
CRAVING MAVERICK is Book #3 of the Once Upon A Funeral Series. There are four books in the series, but they do not have to be read in order. The four talented authors, Angela Seals, Elle Wright, Sherelle Green, and Sheryl Lister are talented writers who collaborated to give their readers a set of delightful novellas. That being said, I recommend CRAVING MAVERICK for your reading pleasure.
