REVIEW: AN ALASKAN BLESSING is a beautifully written love story that is uplifting and inspiring. The story is set in Serenity Peak, Alaska. Meet Skye Drummond, manager of Sugar’s Place, the family business that specializes in candles, blankets, clothing, etc. Skye is at a crossroads in her life and struggling to get over a heartache that has haunted her for three years. More about that later. The leading man in this story is State Trooper Ryan Campbell. He and Skye have an uneasy relationship due to the drama that occurred on what should have been the happiest day of Skye’s life. You’ll get that when you read the story.
As the story opens, Skye encounters a “bundle” left on the doorstep of Sugar’s Place. That bundle is a baby named Lula. Of course, Skye has no idea who left the beautiful baby or why. She calls the local doctor and the State police. Enter Ryan who has been assigned to the case. As I said, Ryan and Skye have an uneasy relationship. Ryan is a friend of the man who left Skye at the altar. Consequently, Skye is still dealing with the hurt and humiliation of that ordeal. She has relied on her faith to get her through each day for over three years. On the day Lula is left at her place of business, Skye’s perspective begins to change. She focuses on baby Lula, taking care of her needs, and allowing her past hurts to take a back seat. While Ryan is investigating Lula’s parentage, he and Skye are able to have some serious conversations about what happened on the day she was left at the altar. It’s life changing for both Skye and Ryan, and a pivotal moment in the story.
The investigation into Lula’s parentage produces some enlightening revelations. No spoilers. I am going to allow you to discover exactly what happened when the details of Lula’s birth are revealed. I love how Ms. Calhoune resolves the mystery of why Lula was left at the doorstep of Skye’s shop. What happens after that leads to a resolution where everyone comes out on the winning side. Lula is surrounded by people who love her, Skye’s feelings of shame dissipate into a new-found strength, and Ryan finds a partner to forge a future with. The Epilogue clearly provides an HEA that is perfect!
