REVIEW: I enjoy reading stories by talented author, Parker J. Cole. Her style of writing has a way of pulling the reader in from the first page. Her characters are eclectic and enigmatic. In this story we meet Purity Pennington, aka Par Pen. (Stick with me here.) The story is set in the late eighteen hundreds, and the main setting is the town where Purity/Par is from; oddly named Last Chance, Nebraska. That alone, is enough to grab the reader’s attention. Joining Purity/Par is Livingstone Caspar Smith from Chicago, Illinois, as the hero of this story. They are two unlikely souls who encounter each other on an ill-fated stagecoach ride to Last Chance.
I love Purity/Par and Caspar’s characters. They are strong-willed and somewhat mysterious. Ms. Cole has a knack for divulging just enough information about her characters in strategic places. So, the story emerges as an historical romantic mystery. Part of the mystery is the reason why Purity has taken on the persona of a tough as nails stagecoach driving man known as Par Pen. To complicate matters, Caspar has been corresponding with a woman named Purity Pennington, and that is why he is headed to Last Chance on the stagecoach accompanied by a woman named Ottilie Banner. Both Caspar and Ottilie are fleeing an unwanted marital set-up contrived by Caspar’s uncle and Ottilie’s father. The stage coach journey to Last Chance is chocked full of drama wild-wild west style. For Purity/Par and Caspar it is life-changing. No spoilers. You’ll understand everything when you read the story.
All the minor characters contribute to the intrigue of the story and the development of the main characters. A GROOM FOR PURITY is a story that can be read in one sitting. I love the blissful HEA. In addition, the Bonus Chapter added at the end of the story provides some helpful insight into the two main characters.
I enjoyed reading this story. It was an engaging love story with a hint of mystery. Although A GROOM FOR PURITY is Book #19 in the Blizzard Brides Series, it can be read as a stand-alone. I recommend it for your reading pleasure.
