1. What made you want to become a writer?
I have been a readaholic since I was old enough to identify words. I have also had people acting out stories in my head. The natural progression was to put their stories onto paper.
2. Why romance?
I read just about everything form fantasy and science fiction and mystery to biographies, but my favorite genre is romance.
3. Tell me a little bit about SNOWBOUND WITH LOVE?
My book is SNOWBOUND WITH LOVE. I got the idea from several sources: a winter with more than 17 snowstorms, getting snowed in when I was in college, and a friend who had to walk several miles when her car got stuck in a snowbank. I played "what if" and embellished it all and melded it together.
4. Besides writing what do you like to do?
I'm a retired teacher who is busier than ever. I work out five days a week in the gym, I belong to a senior citizens tap dancing group, I travel a lot, and I'm involved with a poetry group. I write poetry and have been the featured poet at several venues in the area. I also spend as much time as possible with my 2 grandsons.
5. Are you a full-time writer?
I am now--- in addition to the above mentioned activities.
6. What's next for Alice Wootson?
Next for Alice Wootson is to try to match the 5 and 4 star ratings SNOWBOUND WITH LOVE has been awarded. My agent is also trying to place an historical novel I wrote which is dear to my heart.
7. Any special message for the aspiring author?
Yes. Stick with it. 2 days before Karen Thomas said she wanted to acquire my book, I got a letter from an agent who told me that no editor would ever be interested because it had no commercial value for a genre novel. She also said that she doubted I could sustain the story for 300+ pages without resorting to cliches. I hope she read my reviews. I had faith in my work. I've taken numerous classes and workshops, I belong to a critique group and Snowbound won 1st place in the romance novel workshop at the Phila. Writers Conference. If not for these, I might have been devastated. That was the most vicious rejection I have ever received.
ROMANCE IN COLOR wishes Ms. Wootson the greatest success.
