How did you begin your writing career?

I began my writing career at around twelve years old. I used to keep a diary that I would read aloud to my friends.

Did you ever think that you would write a book?

No, I never thought that I'd be writing books, especially not as a career.

Tell me about your journey to become a writer.

It was an uphill battle for me to get published. No one wanted to sign me at first.  And I didn't just get rejected by anyone, mind you, I got rejections from only the top publishing companies. :) I can laugh about it now. Taking the leap into self-publishing was one of the best decisions I ever made. It got me the attention that I needed to secure a literary agent. Once I got an agent, everything else fell into place, and I wound up getting a two-book contract deal.

Tell me about your first book, SHOES ON THE OTHA’ FOOT.

SHOES ON THE OTHA’ FOOT is my baby...It's my first novel, it's a coming-of-age, love and consequences story. The book is also very dear to me because it represents my accomplishment in becoming a first-time author. I made it happen on my own originally, and I'm really proud of that fact.

How did you come up with the idea for your sophomore effort, A PAIR LIKE NO OTHA’?

I came up for the idea of A Pair Like No Otha' just through going through life, and being observant. I love writing about male-female relationships. I wanted to see what would happen in a story if you put two total opposites together with a common-ground that being, "old H. S.  best friends." The results were truly explosive!

What would you like your readers to take away from your story?

I would like for readers to grasp the two main themes of the story. 1) Bad things do happen to good people, but it's the plan for what's next that counts most. 2) Love, finding it, and keeping it.

What’s next for Hunter Hayes?

Next on the list bigger and better things. I've got a communications background, and would like to develop "A Pair " into a movie script. Big dreams, big screens, sounds logical enough to me.

How can readers contact you?

Readers, one and all, I welcome you to contact me with feedback or thoughts.  You can drop me an e-mail at Hunthayes@aol.com or you can contact me via snail mail at PO Box 1632, New York, NY 10027

Finally, tell me exactly how having your first book finally on the shelf made you feel?

Surreal, really. Still doesn't quite real. It also makes me feel very, very, thankful for people like you who help to promote authors, good friends, family, and of course dedicated readers of all my works.

Best as always,
Hunter Hayes
