NATALIE DUNBAR debuts with Genesis Press this month
(March) with BEST OF FRIENDS. She is a Detroit area engineer and University of Michigan
graduate who has never been able to resist a good story. From creating
plays to perform with her sisters at the age of eight, to writing romantic
episodes for Star Trek's Mr. Spock, and finally penning romance novels that
encompass all her favorite heroes, she has always enjoyed romance. For
Natalie, romantic fiction represents the great escape into the most exciting
adventure imaginable: LOVE. Married to her high school sweetheart, Natalie
lives in the Detroit area with her husband and her two boys. BEST OF
FRIENDS is her first Indigo love story."
1. What made you want to become a writer?
I believe that reading and writing are
entertwined. For most of my life
I've read voraciously and this has fed my need to create something of my
own. I have always loved to write, so in that respect, I've always been a
writer. I like to create worlds, realities, people, and situations that
draw a reader in, entertain, and transport the reader into my reality.
2. Why romance?
I am a true romantic. I believe that
love can conquer all and this
translates into my wanting to create romances. When I write, I like to
imagine and create that ideal man, the ideal relationship, for the unique
characters in each story.
3. Tell me a little bit about BEST OF fRIENDS?.
BEST OF FRIENDS
is about the transformation of the friendship between two
best friends to love. The heroine, Mariah McCleary, has lost all her
family due to war and various illnesses. When she is abandoned by her
fiance, her best friend, Ramon, puts his busy social life on hold to help
her get over it. When the ex-fiance tries to worm his way back into her
affections, Ramon realizes that his feelings go far beyond friendship and
takes on the monumental task of persuading Mariah to accept his love.
In the sub-plots there's an interracial romance between Mariah's secretary
and the Italian designer who shares their office space.
4. Besides writing what do you like to do?
I love to read! I also play tennis,
and travel as much as I can. I'm also
an old movie buff.
5. Are you a full-time writer?
No, I'm not a full-time writer. I
still work full-time as an engineer. I
hope to eventually become successful enough to write full-time.
6. What's next for Natalie Dunbar?
I've completed a series romance that I hope
to get published and I'm more
than a third of the way through writing a romantic suspense novel featuring
African American characters. When I wrote BEST OF FRIENDS I imagined full
length novels for the characters introduced in the sub-plots. Hopefully, I
get the opportunity to write them.
7. Any special message for the aspiring author?
Follow your dreams and go for the gusto!
For just about every published
author with a novel in print, there's also several rejection letters. Be
strong, keep writing, and keep improving your writing skills!
Natalie, the staff of ROMANCE IN COLOR wish you continued success!!!!
