REVIEW: Adam Redhawk hires an investigator, Tess Lynch, to find his siblings who were separated when they were kids. After finding his family, Adam hired Tess to find out who’s trying to sabotage his company from within. Tess is more than happy to help, especially since it keeps her close to Adam. Tess has an agenda of her own. She plans to get even with Adam’s adoptive father for ruining hers. Her passionate relationship with Adam gets in the way and an unexpected pregnancy complicates things. Adam finds out that Tess was using him at the beginning of their relationship to get revenge on his adoptive father. He feels betrayed and tells Tess their relationship is over. Tess tries to explain that she loves him now, but he turns a deaf ear to her pleas. Lucky for Adam, his friend, Justin, explains in great detail that he was about to lose the best thing that ever happened to him if he didn’t come to his senses and go after Tess.
Adam is a complicated, self-made tech billionaire who runs Redhawk/Ling with his best friend. Adam was adopted by wealthy people but they were hardly loving parents. It shaped him into the man he is today; a man wary of personal relationships. Tess is a private investigator who took on the responsibility of raising her younger sister after their father passed away. Despite her rough upbringing, Tess grew to be a confident, independent woman capable of navigating the ups and downs of life.
TAKING ON THE BILLIONAIRE is a fantastic read. Ms. Covington has written an exciting and emotional story sure to capture your attention from the start. The characters are complex but intriguing. The pacing is good and the storyline flows. It involves the reconnection of siblings separated when they were kids. But the main attraction is two people with relationship issues trying to navigate a no-strings affair that backfires. Tess and Adam’s chemistry is so potent you can feel the electrical charge in the air when they occupy the same room. They try to fight it but their resistance is futile. I loved all the characters including the wicked adoptive father. This is a wonderful story that held my attention enough for me to read it in one sitting. What a great start to a new series.
TAKING ON THE BILLIONAIRE is part of the Redhawk Reunion Series. It leads the way in what promises to be intriguing and exciting stories. I am looking forward to reading Roan and Sarina’s storyline. My curiosity has definitely been peaked regarding Justin. I recommend this book as a great way to escape for a few hours.
