REVIEW: I love a good second chance romance story, and prolific author Reese Ryan has penned a winner in SECOND CHANCE ON CYPRESS LANE. When the story opens, Dakota Jones, a journalist with a promising future in TV news, is facing a major crisis. She is leaving the Big Apple, her home of sixteen years, to escape to her South Carolina hometown because of a major scandal that has brought her once-promising career to a screeching halt. I’ll allow you to discover the devastating misdeed that derailed Dakota’s bright future, ironically, as an investigative reporter. Holly Grove Island, a small town in the Outer Banks is the setting for this engaging story. It’s where Dakota grew up but left for the allure of the big city leaving behind family, friends and one Dexter Roberts, her high school sweetheart whom she was not looking forward to see.

Not only is Dakota keeping a secret from family and friends as to why she is back, but she is also aware that she has some apologies to make to said family and friends for completely cutting ties with them as she experienced the glamorous life of big city living. Ms. Ryan gives us an insightful look into our heroine as she finds herself back on Cypress Lane in the house in which she grew up. The tension between Dakota and Dex is palpable, caused by the reason behind their break-up. It is heartbreaking even though it was done with good intentions. You’ll get that when you read the story. However, as fate would have it, Dex hires Dakota to work with him and a mutual friend on a project to bring more business to the island. It’s a turning point in the story, as Dakota and Dex have the proverbial “come-to-Jesus” moment. Dakota and Dex’s story is at times poignant, and sweet.

The storyline flows well, and the characterization is on-point. The minor characters composed of the family and friends of the hero and heroine contribute to the intrigue of the story and the development of the main characters. The HEA is wonderful.

If a sweet romance that highlights a second chance at love is your cup of tea, then I highly recommend
