REVIEW: I felt sorry for Emerie Cole when I started reading IRRESISTIBLE TEMPTATION. Nobody wants to find out her man isn’t exactly being true to them. Emerie finds out in the worst way, at the Hair Salon, where all the gossip happens. The reader’s first introduction to Vaughn Carr is when Emerie runs into him; literally. It felt like she ran into a wall. Vaughn and Emerie’s brother are best friends. She’s had a crush on him forever and this first encounter in two years confirms that she still does.
It took Vaughn a little while to catch up but at some point, over the years, he has started seeing Emerie differently also; especially, now that they are spending a lot of time with each other. I like how Ms. Wright captures their interactions, mainly the flirting, which is initiated by Vaughn. No matter how they feel about each other now, nothing will change their history and importance in each other’s lives. They’ve always been like family.
In his dating life, Vaughn has been more about the “right now” as Ms. Wright put it. Spending time with Emerie makes him realize that he’s ready for something more. Emerie and Vaughn are both thinking about the future, but for different reasons. The question is, do they see each other in it?
It’s interesting to learn a little about being a DJ. Emerie learned everything she could from Vaughn. She is now on the rise as a DJ; while Vaughn is considered a “celebrity”. The world’s current state of affairs caused me to think about a certain “celebrity” DJ that is impacting a lot of people’s lives in a positive way.
Of course there is a discussion with someone who is very important in both Emerie and Vaughn’s lives. Ms. Wright puts a different spin on it and focuses on the friendship aspect. A strong friend group is a recurring theme in all of Ms. Wright’s books. She always includes characters that round out the story. From Vaughn’s perspective, she also shows the importance of family and what happens when family help isn’t there. IRRESISTIBLE TEMPTATION is my first read of the Carnivale Chronicles Series. This is a short, fun read and I highly recommend it.
