REVIEW: A PIECE OF HER HEART is a page turner from Chapter One to the last page of the Epilogue. The readers are treated to a non-stop, fast-paced suspense that reaches to the highest office in the land, the office of the Commander-in-Chief, President Jeffrey “ J.D.” Harrison. The heroine of the hour is Operative Monique (Code name, Spicy) Day. She is beautiful, well-trained and ‘take no prisoners” deadly. I love this story, because it proves even a highly trained-to-kill operative needs love too. Who can even come close to attracting such a woman? His name is Grayson “Graywolf” Davenport, who is so much more than he appears to be.
This story will keep you on your toes. Danger, high level espionage, and treasonous acts are compounded by threats to family members. Not only does A PIECE OF HER HEART give us a glimpse of high-level government intrigue, it also looks into the heart and soul of the family dynamic— immediate and extended. There are so many layers to this story, and I guarantee you will enjoy uncovering all of them from explosive revealing moments, heart-stopping action, political turmoil, to family drama. The romantic layer between Monique and Grayson is going to rock your boat. The heat between them is intense, and it rattles Monique as she is faced with protecting her heart as she unwaveringly protects the country.
Author Iris Bolling takes a page from present-day headlines to give the story an authentic edge. It revolves around voting and controlling elections. Kudos to the prolific and talented author for the realistic handling of a very sensitive and relevant subject matter.
All the minor characters contribute to the intrigue of the story and the development of the main characters. We get to see some of the popular and unforgettable Bolling characters in action once again: Adam Lassiter, Joshua, Al “Turk” Day, the Harrison’s (POTUS and FLOTUS), John and Lena Roth, and Sly Pendleton to name a few. Add to the list, Sasha, Al’s other daughter and Monique’s sister. The Epilogue is HOT and you will be in HEA heaven.
A PIECE OF HER HEART is a wonderful reading experience. Even if it’s your first read by Ms Bolling, you will still enjoy it. However, it does increase your reading pleasure if you are familiar with the players. Nevertheless, I highly recommend this story that is part of The Heart Series. You can thank me later.
