REVIEW:  Alexandrea Gale, better known as Drea or Alex to friends and family, leaves New York and comes home to her hometown of Sugar Lake to help her Aunt Joyce in the family’s bakeshop. Kellen Kilborn comes to town to talk his grandmother into selling prime real estate to an outside interest.  Of course, his grandmother, Mrs. Betty has no intention of selling her beloved movie theatre. She wants to renovate it. Kellen and his grandmother butt heads, especially when he finds out that she hired Drea to help her. Kellen and Drea are complete opposites but make the best of working together. They pretend they’re not attracted to each other, but body language tells a different story. The verbal sparring between the two is amusing but also loving. With subtle nudging from Mrs. Betty, Kellen and Drea find themselves in love before the theatre renovation is completed.

Drea is a talented, sensitive young woman with aspirations of one day, making it as an actor/entertainer. So far, she hasn’t had much luck in that department.  In the meantime, to earn extra money, she’s making good use of her design skills. Kellen has managed Kilborn Properties since before the death of his grandfather.  He’s a stubborn but conscientious businessman who works hard to make a success of the family’s company.

TOO SWEET TO BE GOOD by K.M. Jackson is a feel-good story that grabs you and pulls you in.  A well-written and simple read with sweet loveable and likable characters. The pacing is moderate but interesting enough to hold your attention and keep you reading. The author gives the two main characters, clever nicknames, which I thought were cute. But you have to read the book to find out what they are. Drea and Kellen’s interactions are centered around the disagreement that stands between them. But even so, their attraction would not be denied. Underneath all their feigned indifference, love finds its way into their hearts. With a small Southern town as the backdrop, the author has created a charming love story with laughter, subtle manipulation, and all in the name of true love.

I recommend this sweet Southern love story for your reading enjoyment. It’s sure to warm your heart. Sugar Lake may be a small town, but it has a lot going on behind the scene.
