THE RELUCTANT BID - Sheryl Lister
REVIEWER: Brenda Larnell | RATING: A
REVIEW: The first book up of the Distinguished Gentlemen Series written by the prolific author, Sheryl Lister, is a winner! The fictional Southlake Park community is the setting for this series. Beloved Foster Mother extraordinaire, Mama Peaches, aka the “Mama of Chicago”, is the catalyst behind the Bachelor Auction fundraiser to revitalize this community that has fallen into disrepair. Mama Peaches is depending on the successful young men she fostered and helped to raise to participate in the auction. Unfortunately, Romeo (pronounced Ro-ma-o) Alexander is not eager to return to Southlake to participate.
In spite of the early years of his life that hold painful memories of growing up in Southlake, Romeo Alexander achieves success as a brilliant architect. He resides on the West coast, along with his sister, Daniella, whom he has always taken care of. Why his reluctance to participate? You’ll have to read the story to find out. Although Romeo has his reasons, he cannot disappoint Mama Peaches. Reluctantly, he returns to Southlake Park for the auction, and meets Zola Harrington, the photographer for the event. When Zola captures the brooding bachelor in her lens, she also sees a very handsome man who captures her attention and a winning bid. Yes, it’s on a poppin’ for Zola and Romeo as Las Vegas becomes their destination for their getaway weekend.
I enjoyed Zola and Romeo’s (aka Black Ice) story. It was engaging, poignant, sweet and sexy. The side characters added to this well-written story by helping to advance the plot and revealing information about the protagonists. The HEA is so gratifying.
The Distinguished Gentlemen Series is composed of fourteen novellas written by fourteen of the most creative and talented writers in the business. Twelve of the stories were released this month. Two will be released in May, and there is no particular order to read them. I highly recommend that you read them all. Sheryl Lister’s THE RELUCTANT BID is a great starting point! Enjoy!
