REVIEW: The prolific and dynamic author, D Camille comes through again with another excellent addition to the Negus Effect series set in the ‘D’ (Detroit). The Master, George Shaw from the first book of the series, calls on Dr. Mathias Roberts, brother of Malachi Roberts, the Expert, Book 2. Mathias is a highly successful therapist who is enlisted to uncover the identity of the young men who wear the title of Neo Negus, and to discover who is behind their destructive mission. Mathias accepts the challenge, but he needs help in profiling these upstarts. Enter, FBI Special Agent Taylor Gibbs. Taylor and Malachi are guided toward each other at just the right time when they both need a special someone in their lives.

Special Agent Gibbs is an FBI profiler, and she and Mathias work together to profile the Neo Negus who must be stopped because of their negative and detrimental acts in the city of Detroit. Sounds like a plan? Well, as they say, “the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry”. The storyline takes off and the reader is captured by the many subplots that the author ingeniously connects to main plot. From corruption in high places and mental issues, to family drama and deceit intermingled with romantic interludes, this story will take you on a well-written ride that is destined to literally end with a bang! It is so much more than the good guys defeating the bad guys. There is also a spiritual element present that connects with the more obvious plot points of romance and suspense. They all successfully combine to make an intriguing story that grabs you from the opening pages to the cliff-hanging Epilogue.

The Negus and their families play significant roles in the story, along with the newcomers, the Neo Negus. Their roles help to drive the storyline along. Bad guys abound in the form of high-ranking law enforcement officers. One name stands out, Special Agent Yolanda Collins. No spoilers. You will understand when you read the story. Taylor’s family members are introduced in this story. Her father is off-the-chain-crazy along with Taylor’s ex-husband, Mason. Boo-Hiss to both of them. The “Surprise, Surprise” award goes to Miles Johnson. If you follow D Camille’s stories, then you recognize him as Lance Johnson’s brother. I’ll let you discover why he appears in this particular story. Last, but not least is Patrice Dansby. She is out of prison and makes a pivotal appearance. That’s all I’m going to say about that.

THE GUIDE is the fourth book of a continuing storyline. These books, THE MASTER, THE EXPERT, THE ACE and THE GUIDE are not stand-alones. If you are not familiar with this series, I strongly suggest that you start with Book 1. In the meantime, for those of you who are up-to-date, I highly recommend THE GUIDE. I think it’s the best story of the series so far.
