REVIEW: HIS CHRISTMAS GIFT by Janice Sims is a story about loyalty, reconnecting and falling in love all over again. We are first introduced to Alia Joie Youngblood-Braithwaite in Ms. Sims previous book, CHERISH MY HEART. She is the Marketing Director for her family’s media company, and also a talented painter who is working on her first art show. Alia’s husband, Scientist Dr. Adam Braithwaite, and his colleagues were held hostage for two years, and were recently rescued.

After much anticipation, Adam and Alia are back together and their reunion is very touching. Adam has been through a life altering experience. It’s going to take patience and time for him to get back to a sense of normalcy in his life and marriage, and also get over his insecurities. Ms. Sims raises awareness about seeking professional help after a traumatic experience. Although Alia has been loyal to him, Ms. Sims also addresses, through Adams’ colleague, the reality that some relationships don’t make it through this experience.

Alia now lives in a building that was featured in the Green Book. I liked the historical reference to the Book, especially since the movie of the same name came out last year.  Over time, Alia and Adam are finally able to enjoy each other as a couple. The reader gets to go to the Bahamas with the couple to visit Adam’s family. Ms. Sims writes an interesting scene during their visit. Let’s just say the happy couple was enjoying each other a little too much.

Ms. Sims adds depth to the secondary characters and the reader learns a little about Alia’s friends, who were very supportive when Adam was held hostage, and Adam’s work colleagues. There are also updates on the Youngblood family. Ms. Sims gives the reader plenty of detail and sets the stage for the next book in the series. All in all,
HIS CHRISTMAS GIFT is a good book and I recommend it
