A LESSON ON LOVE - Sharon C. Cooper
REVIEWER: Brenda Larnell | RATING: A
REVIEW: Talented author Sharon C. Cooper treats us to another enjoyable story that highlights a Jenkins’ family member. Enter Jerry Jenkins, known player and lover of women who are endowed with a full-figure. Although he loves women, he is not in love with the institution of marriage, especially when it comes to him. He is a “Playa from the Himalayas”, that is until one special lady and her daughter move in next door. Enter Rayne Ellison, a curvy beauty, who immediately catches his eye and later his heart. However, Rayne insists that they can only be friends because she cannot risk her heart to a man like Jerry.
As a single mother of a precocious little girl, Stormy, Rayne is struggling to keep a roof over their heads and the bills paid. The last thing she needs is a man who is a notorious ladies’ man. Even though Jerry is not proud of that moniker, and insists he is a changed man since meeting Rayne, she is not trying to hear it. Considering her past experience as a young girl growing up, and the tragic results of a devastating marriage, you cannot blame her. I won’t go into any details, but the only good thing that came from that union is a little girl who wins the hearts of everyone she meets. In the meantime, Jerry launches an all-out blitz to convince his family, Rayne and anyone who doubts him that Rayne is the only woman for him. There is, without a doubt, chemistry and a sensual sexual tension between Rayne and Jerry that will not be denied. The storyline follows Jerry’s progress as he deliberately and strategically breaks down the protective barriers that Rayne has placed around her heart. The story takes an unexpected turn when Rayne becomes a victim once again at the hands of someone else. No spoilers. It’s a strong plot point that impacts the heroine mentally. The difference is that this time, she is not alone to handle everything herself.
A LESSON ON LOVE has a robust cast of characters who are mostly comprised of Jenkins’ family members. The Jenkins family is fast becoming one of the premiere Contemporary Romance families. I love the role of Violet Jenkins, the wise free-spirited family matriarch, who leaves the heroine with some sage advice that resonates with her. “Don’t let your circumstances control you.” Two side characters, Liam, Jerry’s cousin and Rayne’s best friend Charlee have history, and they are not on good terms. Could they be the next hero and heroine of a new Jenkins’ family story? Stay tuned.
A LESSON ON LOVE is an entertaining and engaging story, and I recommend it. The HEA is wonderful! This book is the third book of the Jenkins & Sons Construction Series, but it can be read as a stand-alone. Happy reading!
