Michael “MJ” Jane and Jamal Carver were not looking for love. They each were successful in their chosen careers and relatively happy with their lives. That right there is the heart of this story. Author, Cheris Hodges, does a noteworthy job in presenting a captivating romance. In addition, MJ and Jamal are friends which lends another angle to the storyline; friends to lovers.

THE HEAT BETWEEN US is set in the burgeoning metropolis of Atlanta, Georgia, where Michael heads a marketing company and ex-Marine, Jamal, is the owner of a security firm. Ironically, they both are working together to finalize plans for an upcoming Jazz Festival. It gets a little complicated as they both fend off exes who just won’t go away. One thing that is very clear is that MJ and Jamal are attracted to each other with MJ being the reluctant one and Jamal being the determined one. In the meantime, there’s a jazz festival to promote and plan. Did I mention that the jazz festival is the brainchild of MJ’s ex, Nicholas Prince, or one of the venues is owned by a woman who is stalking Jamal? Yes, things get complicated, so you must read this story to discover how all of this pans out.

This story is accompanied with some very satisfying sexy and heated scenes between MJ and Jamal. The secondary character who really stands out is Lucy Becker, Jamal’s vengeful stalker. She is indeed a piece of work. The HEA is gratifying, but lacks that “Wow” factor.

I enjoyed MJ and Jamal’s story, and the heat between them. I recommend it for your reading pleasure.
