REVIEW: From the very first page of Chapter 1, there is a sense of foreboding that SEEKING SARAH is not going to be your average Romance, or Women’s Fiction story. As the story begins, the protagonist, Brooke Green, is quite hesitant about accepting a marriage proposal from her fiancé, Trent Grant. Immediately, the question arises, “What’s the problem”? As you read, you discover that the ‘problem’ the heroine is wrestling with is the crux of this story. Author ReShonda Tate Billingsley has penned a multi-layered story that encompasses love, abandonment, mental illness, revenge and forgiveness.

Without revealing too much of Brooke’s journey as she seeks Sarah, her mother, I will say that the discoveries that are revealed as Brooke formulates her plan to find her mother are not as simple as she would have them to be. As a matter of fact, the closer she gets, the more complicated things become. Brooke is so focused on seeking Sarah that she loses sight of any consequences that her short-sighted search may bring. Her fiancé, Trent, and her family members are left behind as Brooke forges ahead angry and confused. The adage, “Revenge is a dish best served cold” does not really apply here, even though Brooke’s mother abandons her family when Brooke is just seven years old.  As an adult, she embarks on a hot quest for revenge. Rather, the saying, “Actions have consequences” is more apropos. Innocent lives become caught up in Brooke’s plot. The fall-out is significant, and I will leave that right here.

The secondary characters carry a major weight in helping to advance the storyline. Although Brooke’s family that includes her father, her grandmother, aunt, and cousin, try to steer her in a more positive direction, it is to no avail. Sarah’s family, comprised of her husband, daughter, and stepson, become unwitting pawns in Brooke’s obsession for acknowledgement by her mother. With such an intriguing protagonist and engaging secondary characters,
SEEKING SARAH is a page-turner for sure.

SEEKING SARAH explores the “what if” scenario of an errant mother-daughter relationship. The Epilogue contains a statement that brilliantly sums up Brooke’s journey when she states, “I’d sacrificed my future trying to recapture my past.”  Although Brooke’s past actions still haunt her, we are presented with a surprising ending that imparts a ray of hope. Kudos to ReShonda Tate Billingsley for creating a captivating story that I highly recommend.
