FORGED IN DESIRE - Brenda Jackson
REVIEWER: Alicia Aaron | RATING: A
REVIEW: FORGED IN DESIRE is Brenda Jackson’s latest romance novel and the first novel in The Protector Series. Fans of her Granger series will love the spinoff series which deals with three men that Shepherd Granger mentored while being falsely imprisoned.
In Forged in Desire, we meet Lamar “Striker” Jennings, a man who was sent to prison for killing a cop who raped his brother. Striker is instantly taken with the heroine, Margo Connelly, although he tried his best to remain detached and professional. He and two other men (Quasar Patterson and Stonewall Courson) who were mentored by Mr. Granger work at Summers Security Firm. Margo was on a jury that convicted a criminal, Murphy Erickson, of murder. At the trial the maniacal Erickson vowed to kill everyone who was present inside of the courtroom until he was released from prison. It then becomes Striker’s job to ensure Margo remains safe, much to her annoyance.
Over the course of the book, Margo and Striker become close; which is usually what happens when two people are attracted to each other and are in forced close proximity to one another. Secrets come out that deal with both of their familial issues, further tightening the bond between Striker and Margo.
One of the great things about Brenda Jackson’s writing is that she is able to create romance stories that are classic, it’s why she’s as successful as she is. Forged in Desire, while it followed textbook romance writing, was not the same as some of her other writings. Mrs. Jackson has a way of writing her scenes that allow the reader to feel the intense passion while remaining classy at the same time. It’s sweet, but passionate; it’s classic Brenda Jackson.
Striker and Margo are well fleshed out. You get to see a soft side to Striker, not at all what you would expect from your stereotypical ex-con. You understand why he did what he did and you get to see a big, strong, tough guy lose his heart to a wonderful woman that he feels he doesn’t deserve. You get to see what a compassionate sweetheart Margo is.
The flow of FORGED IN DESIRE is easy to follow and there were no major issues with this book. The only thing I didn’t like was how everyone tried to keep Margo in the dark when it came to family secrets. I also didn’t like how Striker felt he wasn’t good enough for Margo.
To anyone looking for a solid romance novel to read, I would highly recommend FORGED IN DESIRE by Brenda Jackson. Intrigue, minor mystery, romance and redemption are the hallmarks of this book and you can’t go wrong reading it.
