SOLD: A HOLIDAY ROMANCE - J.L. Campbell
The Writer's Suite
REVIEWER: Janet Caldwell | RATING: A
REVIEW: Feechi Anoduro struggles to maintain a decent living by working a full-time job and moonlighting as an auction assistant in Queensborough, Jamaica. Her motivation, as a single parent, is providing for the light of her life, her son, Jaquan (Jack). At her auction job, she assists an intriguing customer with a large transaction. This customer is so impressed with Feechi that he makes her a job offer she can’t refuse. Carsten Raimes is the customer and also the owner of a profitable auction business. He is so captivated by Feechi’s professionalism and mannerism that he wants her in his business AND in his life.
Carsten has a keen eye for quality. He is an astute businessman that hires good people, compensates them well and expects a high level of performance. He also has made it clear to Feechi that he goes after what he wants … including her.
Campbell delivers a sweet holiday romance about an unlikely couple. Feechi and Carsten hail from different socioeconomic backgrounds, but Campbell presents a scenario where love triumphs over insecurity, betrayal, jealousy and skepticism.
In addition to our leading characters, other characters impacting the story include Feechi’s son; her sister, Dee; her mother; Max the spunky terrier and briefly, Carsten’s family. The story is set in Jamaica, primarily Queensborough, with visits to Kingston and Montego Bay.
I enjoyed this story of finding love again. There is instant attraction between Carsten and Feechi, but because of baggage from her past, Feechi’s journey to realization is filled with a lot of doubt about a good-hearted man who was willing to give her the world.
SOLD is my first novel by J.L. Campbell and I was impressed with her writing style and creative storyline. This novel was refreshing and held my interest to the end. The chemistry between Feechi and Carsten is undeniable and receives tasteful treatment by Campbell. If you are seeking another romance to add to your holiday reading, consider SOLD. It’s a quick read and certain to sweeten your holidays.
