SYNOPSIS:  A were-cheetah with a troubled past and a human with a troubled present are the only hope for a child's survival. PARANORMAL FICTION |3+|  La-Tessa Montgomery

REVIEW:  Sinclair Duval has a full plate between her job as a commercial airline pilot and the fact that she is all but raising her niece Nahla.  Mina, her sister and Nahla’s mother, is an addict with horrible taste in men.  Because of this, Sinclair gave up her condo and her independence in order to move in with them to ensure that Nahla is cared and loved for.  But a day of fun turns to horror when both Sinclair and Nahla are injured in a freak accident at the Jingle Kingdom.  Sinclair has a ton of questions when finds our seriously injured her niece is, and that she had made an unexpected recovery herself.  Unfortunately, the person with the answers, a sexy and mysterious healer named Rio Velaquez, does not seem to be willing to part with them too quickly.  Rio, a were-cheetah, feels responsible for the severity of Sinclair and Nahla’s injuries so he takes steps order to heal them, against his were-king’s wishes.  While neither Rio nor Sinclair can ignore the passion between the two, will Sinclair ever be able to trust Rio once she finds out what he is and what he did to you her precious niece?

I give the author props, UNSTABLE ENVIRONMENT has a unique plot and characters.  Being a fan of the sci-fi/ paranormal, I enjoyed the introduction of a new species, were-cheetahs.  I thought Ms. Colette did a good job developing her characters and showcasing this new species without overwhelming the reader with a lot of details and rules of their society.  However, I will admit that I was left wanting a bit more information about the were-cheetahs.  The leads have definite chemistry that comes through the pages, and as the reader, I rooted for them to find their way to each other.  Overall, the plot and action was well thought out, however there are a few times when the pacing slows a bit too much for me.  It was doing these times when I became a bit disconcerted and had to go back and re-read something for clarity.

All in all, I think this is a valiant attempt for Ms. Colette’s debut novel.  I look forward to her next installment in this series so I can learn more about were-cheetahs, and hopefully get an update on how Sinclair and Rio are getting along.
