CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE |2 Marguerite Lemons

REVIEW:  Suzanah Dennard ended her abusive marriage and left her old life in Michigan behind to start over in Springfield, Massachusetts.  With past experience as a caterer, she easily secures a position with a catering company and begins to rebuild her life.  Alexander O’Neal has become the youngest partner of one of the most prestigious firms in Springfield.  His record of never losing a case is the most impressive in the country.  Alex and Suzanah share an immediate attraction to one another when they meet at his co-worker’s going away party.  The only problem is that Alex has sworn off women after divorcing his controlling ex-wife Kate.  But when Alex can no longer deny his attraction, he slips out of a banquet being held in his honor to see where Suzanah has gone.  He ends up getting the kiss he’s been dreaming of.  They timidly decide to test the relationship waters, but their budding romance may be cut short after Alex and his best-friend end up hospitalized after being run-off the road by Suzanah’s ex-husband.

UNDYING LOVE starts off fast and furious, but quickly slows to a snail’s pace.  Suzanah’s character becomes silly and annoying with her secrets.  She claims to care for Alex, but she can’t tell him about her ex.  Then to make matters worse, Alex goes from being strong, successful, and every woman’s fantasy; to a wimp when he suffers a complete meltdown.  The plot twist started out on the right road, but for me the end did not justify the means.  By the end of the story, I felt both characters were silly and in serious need of psychiatric counseling.

This story begins with a good story line, but Ms. Alexis fails to make the story believable.  She took two potentially strong characters and made them look immature and stupid.  I did not buy into the conclusion because the happy ending felt contrived.  I applaud Ms. Alexis' efforts to bring this story to life, but it just doesn’t work for me.
