REVIEW:
When one
opportunity passes, sometimes surprising and far more interesting ones can
happen as portrayed in Farrah Rochon’s new novel, RELEASE ME.
With his
NBA career on the rise Toby Holmes’s life long dream has come true until it is
all taken away by a head-on collision. With
his one passion gone Toby cannot envision a life beyond basketball.
In his journey through self-pity he discovers a new talent and a flicker
of hope for a future. To bring this
new dream to fruition Toby must enlist the help of his old basketball buddy.
Toby is shocked however to discover the gawky kid he once played
basketball with has turned into one hot babe.
Sienna Culpepper still has her moves on the court but now all grown up;
she also has a serious set of curves Toby finds himself tracking more closely
than the ball. He is confused by
his less than pure feelings for his best friend but just maybe he’s not the only
one with those feelings.
The
story moves between plot and subplots seamlessly and for the most part is a
quick read. On the surface Sienna
seems to have it all together but beneath it is a woman starving for love.
She faces constant rejection from her mother and is in love with a man
oblivious of her feelings. Toby is
similar in that he also gives an air of confidence but beneath that veneer is a
man with unexpressed emotions and doubts.
They compliment each other perfectly providing the salve the other needs
to heal their emotional wounds.
Sienna’s sister, Ivana and Toby’s best friend, Jonathan are supporting
characters whose story is a riot to read.
The story is set in Toby and Sienna’s hometown of New Orleans and this is where builds a new career and finds love in the process. The characters communicate with ease and comfort. Some of the exchanges between Ivana and Jonathan are just downright hilarious.
I
enjoyed RELEASE ME for a number of reasons:
The story held my interest the entire time, the characters are vivid and
well written, people and places are described with wonderful details, and
finally it had a climatic yet beautiful ending.
I would pass this book on to my friends but better yet, I’ll tell them to
get their own copy because they’ll want to read this one again. reviewer@romanceincolor.com | 25th May 2008
