REVIEW:
You
don’t have to be in love to be in the business of love as depicted in Rochelle
Alers new novel, LONG TIME COMING.
Tessa
Whitfield’s Signature Bridal is all about creating dream weddings but after a
disastrous relationship her new cardinal rule is: never date anyone connected to
a client. Then in walks ADA, Micah
Sanborn. Now all Tessa dreams of is
breaking her rule with one very hot brother of the bride.
Finally unable to resist the promises in his eyes, Tessa agrees to date
Micah if he sticks to her new rule: a relationship that is nothing more than a
friendship-with-benefits. Clearly
Tessa hasn’t learned there are just no hard and fast rules when it comes to the
heart. It’s a great read
discovering who caves first and in this game of love there are no losers; only
winners.
Tessa
and Micah’s connection is instantaneous and their story unfolds over a short
period of time. The story
progresses smoothly and the transitions between the main plot and the subplots
are handled with skillful ease.
Tessa Whitfield is a smart, ambitious, closet romantic who is a refreshing and
fun character to meet. Micah
Sanborn is charismatic and knows all the right moves to make a strong headed
woman like Tessa lose her mind -- in a most desirable way.
He is a man with a past he can’t forget but is smart enough in the end
not to allow it to ruin his future.
Several other characters make up this story including, Micah’s colorful family,
and Tessa’s sister, Simone and cousin, Faith.
Both women will have a have a chance at their happily ever after in
future novels.
The body
of the story is set in an affluent neighborhood in downtown Brooklyn, gentrified
by professionals wishing to live near the city.
It seems like a great place to live despite Micah’s concerns at times for
Tessa’s safety. The dialogue is one of
the strong suits of this novel. The
characters communicate with each other in language that is easy to follow and
very entertaining. Ms. Alers makes
great use of dialogue in adding to the three-dimensionality of the characters.
Long Time Coming
is a great feel good novel and a perfect summertime or anytime read.
This is a book I really enjoyed and most certainly will add to my
collection of read-again books.
