PLOT SYNOPSIS:

REVIEW:

JUST BEFORE DAWN is the second book in Ms. Alers’ Second Generation series, and readers who have been following this compelling series won’t be disappointed with this latest offering.  The story of Sara Sterling and Salem Lassiter is a wonderful love story.

Sara is the daughter of Matthew and Eve Sterling whose story is told in HIDDEN AGENDA.  Sara, an attorney in New York City, returns home to New Mexico for some well-deserved R & R.  While there, she meets the mysterious Salem Lassiter, a man who has been accused of killing his wife.  When Sara meets Salem, the attraction is immediate, but early impressions do not make a good foundation for a great relationship.  She finds him arrogant and egotistical.  He thinks she is spoilt and immature.  It is this conflict, and the burning sexual tension between them makes JUST BEFORE DAWN the excellent work that it is.

Eventually Sara and Salem realize that first impressions are not necessarily true impressions and they discover what is good about each other.  Both Sara and Salem are interesting complex character.  The air of mystery that surrounds Salem, his musical talent and his gift with animals makes him one of the most appealing heroes this year.  Sara, too, is a well-defined heroine who’s confidence and strength of personality makes her a perfect partner for Salem, and when they finally come together, the joining is a intense spiritual one.

He had realized his gift to enter her dreams because she had opened herself to him.  She had become a part of him, and he a part of her.  Through Sara Sterling he would be able to trace his past, his present, and his future.

Central to the story is the plot to kill Sara.  Her prosecution of a group of criminal has resulted in treats on her life, but she is unaware that a hit had been made on her and her assassin is now working on the ranch.  Despite the treat of danger, the reader is confident that Salem will live up to his role as the hero.

JUST BEFORE DAWN is another excellent book from Ms. Alers, and a great addition to her latest series about the Cole Clan.  What is wonderful about this series is that I’ve come to know the characters so well, that I’ve grown to care for them.  Like all fans of this series I can’t wait until December for the next installment, PRIVATE PASSIONS.
