SYNOPSIS:

CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE:  (4) Debbe Parham

REVIEW:  Caryl Cassavette has an affair with a married partner of her prestigious law firm. When their affair is made public and she discovers that his wife is pregnant, she flees to the island of Tortola.

Heartbroken and distraught, Caryl takes a job as a chartered boat captain of the Elendi. Using her mother’s maiden name (Walker), she swears off men and makes a vow of celibacy for at least a year. That vow is put to the test when tall, dark and handsome Joshua Tain books the Elendi for a holiday. When they meet for the first time, both knew that this was “it”, the real thing, but Caryl is determined not to fail on her vow. After a few days of extreme caution, Caryl starts to relax around Joshua and she personally takes him on tours of the different islands. While at one island, they connect. The last night on the Elendi they both know that they are in love and want the relationship to continue.

Joshua knows that Caryl was hiding something and was not ready to tell him. He also was on holiday to get a rest from fighting to keep his company, Tain Music, from a hostile takeover. He does not know that Caryl’s father is his takeover enemy. Their attraction is immediate and Joshua is determined to have Caryl. When he returns to the states, he and Carly continued to communicate and vow to stay together.

Alexander Thorne, the married man that Carly had an affair, has been trying to locate Caryl for months. When he finally finds her, Alexander flies to Tortola to ask for her forgiveness and start their relationship again, since he had now divorced his wife.

JUST AN AFFAIR is a well-written book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It had me rooting for Carly and Joshua from the beginning. The story line had excitement around each corner and the description of the islands made me want to catch the next flight out. This is Ms O’Neal’s debut book and if this is any indication of what’s to come, I will be anxiously awaiting her next.
