REVIEW:  Forsaking those things that are past, Gabrielle Mercedes chose a new name as she embraced her new life. God knows everything, but does He care about our messes? When she tried to do everything that she thought would glorify God, did God allow satan to lean so hard on her despite her religious conviction, strength, and prayer life? Things done in the past and in the dark have a way of coming to the light and are uncovered to expose what is really being done for the sake God.

Gabrielle Mercedes is a gorgeous, talented, and creative dancer. Forced into an abusive situation by the murder of her mother, she endured a great deal of cruelty and strife from her paternal family. Fortunately, one person saw her loveless life and potential and became her salvation—protector, teacher, sponsor and mentor.

Handsome, smart, and sincere Dr. Zachary Wayne Morgan is just too good to be real. His goodhearted, god fearing, friendly personality renders him a highly sought after prince charming.

GOODNESS AND MERCY moves the reader past the history and begats into themes of real life— hardship, betrayal, disappointments, triumph, joy, hope, belief, aloneness, rejection, comfortless, and love. Despite the warning given by a PK to be careful of the vipers and hypocrites in the church, the characters are powerful, warm, witty, lovable, and full of encouragement to run on and see what the end is going to be.

Vanessa Davis Griggs has done a masterful job of creating a timeline using current events and integrating descriptive role models that are parallels to the first family. Set in Birmingham, Alabama, the scene of many firsts, the story is uplifting and promotes the giving of self. The writer’s keen insight into societal issues and the role of the church in promoting joy, fun, family, service, feeding and clothing the homeless and less fortunate is priceless.

GOODNESS AND MERCY is an enjoyable and uplifting must read, and must share.
