November 2009

SYNOPSIS: This compelling sequel to DREAM RUNNER follows a young couple desperately trying to start a family, facing countless setbacks and struggling to keep their marriage together.

CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE |3| Marguerite Lemons

REVIEW:  Marissa “Rissa” and Dench Traylor seem like the perfect couple with the perfect life. Rissa is a hard-nosed, take-no-prisoners sports agent, known for getting her clients the big contracts—including the contract she brokered for her husband in his transition from football player to a coach with the Atlanta Falcons football team.
Rissa and Dench appear to have everything they have ever wanted, except a baby. Rissa has suffered through several miscarriages and infertility treatments that didn’t seem to work. Rissa is on cloud nine when she realizes that she’s pregnant, but she risks her life and that of the baby when she fails to follow her doctor’s orders and see a specialist.

I loved the fact that Dench is extremely supportive of Rissa’s career and dedicated to loving and providing for her every need, even though he feels like a failure after Rissa loses the baby and pushes him away. However, I was disappointed in Rissa’s behavior. I realized she was probably suffering from post partum depression and traumatized by the loss of the baby, but she became a selfish, insecure and blubbering shell of a woman. She was willing to let her marriage die a slow death, instead of going to counseling. It simply got old after a few chapters.

DREAM KEEPER is set in the Atlanta area and is the sequel to DREAM RUNNER. AJ and Marlea are back to lend their support, along with Rissa and AJ’s mother and a few new characters who add a little spice to the story.

This is a story about having faith in yourself and your loved one’s even when you are at your lowest point in life, and not being afraid to seek counseling when you don’t know what else to do.
