REVIEW:  Promise, potential and possibilities can all be stunted if a man is not allowed to follow the dream and desires that God has placed in his heart.  Each of us has been created with a talent, a potential that would assist in changing the world, a potential that would allow us to grow and become who God created us to be.  DANCE INTO DESTINY by Sherri L. Lewis is an excellent rendition of a woman who needs to realize her potential.  Using the themes of love, determination, trust, desire, commitment and prayer, the author takes her character from the miry clay to the top of the mountain.  By the end of the novel, the author is able to give her “hind’s feet, to walk on high places.”

Keeva Banks is the main character of the novel. It is through her that Ms. Lewis develops her storyline to show the importance of discovering your purpose and moving in it. Keeva Banks is miserable, disoriented and is moving through life without the joy she should have.  When stressed, her freedom comes through dance.  The dance of her ancestors burns within her soul and there her joy comes forth.  The author does not leave her alone but gives her the supporting character of Shara.  As their relationship develops, purpose is seen and purpose is pursued.  As a result Keeva is able to shed the burden that has set her back for years and pursue the dream that lay dormant for years.

Shara is not only the supporting character for Keeva but she is almost polar opposite.  Here is a young lady who knows her purpose and is already pursuing it.  It is her dream to see the promise and potential in her charges met.  Her challenges at times drive her to her knees, where she arises a more determined individual.  Her relationship with Keeva is not one-sided however, as she encourages Keeva through the rudiments of schooling, Keeva assist in bringing her hidden beauty to the surface.

It is said without vision the people will perish.  In order for man to fulfill his potential, there must be a place of vision.  This was found under the “pastorship” of Pastor Kendrick and Quinton.  Here the author uses these two men to carry the vision in order to fulfill the purpose.  It is also through these men that the theme of romantic love is developed and pursued allowing for a well rounded, well written novel.
