SYNOPSIS: With a new year beginning, recently divorced Deborah Lee Jackson is ready for a mind, body, and spirit makeover, and she puts romance on the bottom of her to-do list. However, fate has other plans CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE |4+| Dianthia Lemons REVIEW: Deborah Lee Jackson is twenty-five, newly divorced and ready for a new beginning for the New Year. Her ex-husband was a womanizer who thought he was taking her for everything in the divorce. She is on a mission of self improvement, physically and spiritually, from weight loss to learning how to eat and live healthier. Signing up for classes in art, yoga, and healthy cooking are on her menu but not finding a man.
Jason Hastings is a handsome successful artist who is devoted to his career. Jason's best friend Will has a gig in London and talks Jason into teaching his classes for the next few weeks just to help out his friend. He isn't looking for a woman in his life since his last relationship turned out so horribly, with his girlfriend trying to pen a baby on him that wasn't of his making. A trip to the health food store brings both Deborah and Jason into each other's lives. He sees Deborah as a sultry, voluptuous sister he just can't stop thinking about and she sees him as a gorgeous Black King. They fall into a whirlwind romance that has to weather real-life to show itself as real love.
Leslie Esdaile brings us a story of two everyday people who have dealt with harsh past relationships. Each person is taking time off to heal and become a new person but fate intervenes.
BETTER THAN focuses on characters in the process of healing from bad past relationships but they are still able to see how special another person can be in their lives. Adult siblings can carry bad feelings from the past and try to cause pain to their siblings years and years later. The true love and support of another can help everyone heal if they have the desire. Leslie Esdaile's latest effort is a great story. reviewer@romanceincolor.com | 16th May 2008
