REVIEW:
Review: Summer Jackson, a Registered Nurse, is an independent,
intelligent young woman who loves working with people. She and her
friends are privy to special parties and outings on behalf of the
hospital. She is very secure in herself and has dated selectively, but
has refused to compromise herself for any man. Nicholas Stiles is a
handsome successful businessman who isn't accustomed to the word "No".
So when he meets Summer, he
turns her no’s into
yes. Summer thinks she has
found the man of her dreams, then suddenly Nick breaks everything off
and walks out of her life. Nick
realizes he has made a mistake and comes back to rectify things
with Summer. Upon his return, Nick jumps to every conclusion possible,
and Summer has to go through hell just to prove just how special she is
and how not giving up on love can give you your heart's desire.
Exceptional is what I have to say about A SPECIAL SUMMER, a debut novel from
Victoria Wells. I thought that I would put the book down, but read it in a few
hours. A SPECIAL SUMMER takes readers through a myriad of emotions, and I found
myself becoming angry and crying with the characters because the story is so
real. I could see and feel their pain, and their anger and joys with each page.
Ms. Wells’ writing style flows with the smoothness of a new born baby's bottom.
The characters never come across as made up or false, but like friends I know
and love. The story is well-balanced; allowing the reader to experience the
point of view of each character.
Summer and Nicholas take us through a very real and current issue - what to do
when pregnant and alone. Ms. Wells does
an awesome job letting us into the lives of her characters and showing us the
demons men carry when they refuse to get therapy. The old pain from past
relationships can cost an individual a good man or woman if he/she fail to get
some help. A SPECIAL SUMMER is a captivating debut for Victoria Wells. Exciting characters and true to life situations will keep you wanting more. I absolutely loved and related to the story on a personal level. There are still good and genuine people in the world who don't deserve the emotional rollercoaster they encounter with damaged goods. In the end love, and mother's love for her child conquers all. Truly a page turner! reviewer@romanceincolor.com | 13th May 2008
